Weeks spent in such selfish time
Brings a smile so futile, so dishonestly discontented
You weep, you smile, but your heart is growing cold
And you spend your time in disbelief
It’s worked before, almost too good to be true
Shoulders to cry on come in by the dozen
When it’s for a face like yours
You can just tell, these shoulders are growing cold
I am breaking for you
While you’re breaking yourself
And this time you’ve seen
You fell a bit too far
You fell a bit too hard
And now you’ve broken yourself
Another day in the rain, the dirt turns to mud
But it all washes away, and yesterday is back again
The tears are cold against your cheek
And this summer air, it seems to start growing cold
And you don’t feel that you feel lonely
But something inside is screaming for a way out of it
And you don’t feel that you feel lonely
Because you’re breaking yourself
I am breaking for you
While you’re breaking yourself
And this time you’ve seen
You fell a bit too far
You fell a bit too hard
And now you’ve broken yourself
When all the shoulders are cold
You finally see yourself alone
And you finally see that you’ve broken yourself
So you drive away from all of it
And you look at your life from the skyline
You fall to your knees, and you search for escape
You close your eyes and breathe through your mouth
And you admit that you’ve broken yourself
And with all your strength, there’s no hope on your own
To even get back on your feet again
When you see that footprints are your most lasting impression
On the world around you
You give it all away
And tomorrow, you’ll live another way
I was breaking for you
While you were breaking yourself
And this time you’ve seen
That you fell a bit too hard
And I couldn’t be more glad
You found the only thing
That can mend your broken self

That hit really close to home. Makes me think of a cousin of mine….Thank you.

This is great. One of the best, I would say, but that’s just me. This probably has applied to my life on too many occasions, even times where I was the person breaking myself. I’m happy I got back to my senses but I know too many people who haven’t. I wish I had the confidence to just go out and say something like that to one of those people. I pray for it everyday. So yeah thanks for putting this up. Keep up the great work (:

I agree with you, Raquel – this is probably one of the best I’ve written.
And you bring up a good point. The main purpose of this is not simply to say that there are people I see that aren’t living exactly the way they should, but to also to read this as if it were about ourselves. Looking at pieces of our own lives, would we see that we’re just breaking ourselves?

Yes exactly.
In 7th grade, [haha that was so long ago for me] ‘breaking myself’ was an understatement. I got into an argument with this girl because she hated me because of how my personality was. Let me tell you, I was not the person back then that I am now, so I got trapped into anti-conformity. I was such a horrible person. I look back and it doesn’t even seem like me. I was hurting my relationship with God so badly and I couldn’t even see it. Fortunately, that conference I was talking about in my blog recently, opened my eyes and I am a totally new person (:

lol. It’s probably good that 7th grade seems far away, but it’s been just a bit longer for me ;)
I’m glad you’re not a horrible person anymore :)
There are times I can look back on and thing pretty much the same kinda stuff, so you’re definitely not alone.

“JUST A BIT”. Um yeah (:
And I’m happy that you think I’m not a horrible person, haha.

Yeah.. this has become my new “pride and joy” you could say. I can’t believe it came from me.

Very nice use of quote. I think it’s probably true.
