Burden to Breathe

How long does it take for a man to realize that there’s something wrong with his heart?
How long does it take to meet a girl that can knock the wind from his chest?
Will it be obvious that he’s disconnected from where his heart should be?
Will it be obvious that life demands an inhale and exhale to breathe?
Because it’s easier to forget, easier to die.
It’s easier to cling so tight to the things that will not last.

Come on, could you break, could you break my heart?
Love me, could you take, take me back to the start?

Will the man inside these bones ever wonder if his dreams are real?
Will he keep his shoulders held so strong, even though it is a lie?
Can we remember to inhale before we lose our minds?
Can we disappear when all we feel all that we can do is unwind?
Because it’s easier to forget, and it’s easier to die.
It’s easier to cling so tight to the things that will make us cry.

Tell me, did you mean, mean to break my heart?
Love me, is it love, love that kept us apart?

And when he falls to his knees would you please, could you please
Take this burden to breathe,
Take this off my chest?

And when I fall to my knees, would you please, could you please
Take this burden to breathe,
Take this heart from my chest?

Wrapped Up In A Leaf

I saw a picture of her eyes, and mine failed to close
They just broke
“No, sir, I’ve never seen her face before, I’m sure she’s not the culprit
Who’s done the deed”
The words, I squeaked in a thimble’s breath
That would come to take their toll on me

A bird wrapped up in a leaf could never learn to fly
But I’ll stay in bed just like this winged friend
Never open, never open, never become who I am
Never soar, never sing, just wrapped up in a leaf

The flowers had their parade while we all sat in the shade
Oblivious to her passing, wrapped up in a leaf
“I’ll let her have her time, I’m giving her this space
It’s better this way”
The words, I squeaked in a thimble’s breath
That would come to take their toll on me

Take some time to notice who’s beside you
And if you can, could you set them free
Free them from their leaves

And if you happen to see that picture of her eyes
The one that broke mine
“Yes, sir, that’s her, she’s been wrapped up in a leaf
She did the deed”
Are the words you should squeak
They’ll come in a thimble’s breath – you’ll see what I mean

Stand to Fight This Still

It fell like shattered glass
The rain upon my lips
The wet upon my teeth and on my fists
This is tearing me down, I’m tearing me down
Now I’m spun around again

If I was alone I’d be lost in the dark, lost in the dark
But I’m not alone, I’m not alone
You are the one that can pull me out, so remind me
I’m not a lost cause, no, I’m not lost

My hands, they shivered and shook, but I held them out
I was scared, I didn’t know, I just let pain go
I’m not going down, I’m not going down
I’ll stand to fight this still

I’ll stand to fight this
Will you stand to fight this
