Stepping Down

I wrote down a book of all the things that I said
Hoped that one line or two might be found and be read
Tell me if you read it so I know I’ve been heard
And which book did you read, the first, or was it the third

I don’t know how they do it, all this reading from you
Some people sure know how to write but don’t know how to read

Hey Mr. one man show I think it’s time that we had a chance behind the microphone
They can step it up and put the pen to the paper if you’d be so kind as to take your seat
Some out there I know can stand up strong and I know you’re tired so why not give ’em a shot
It might not be quite what you thought but things are getting to be like they never have been

It was never made to be just like these plans we make
And I’ll take my seat if it’s where I need to be
Don’t think again about the book that you read
Because what matters most is from my heart, not my head

Head Games

I can’t believe, I can’t believe that she just ran away
After all the head games she had me playing
There was person A and person B,
And here I am introducing person C
But three’s a crowd in this game today

And these head games keep spinning me around and around
I know it’s cliché, but if up could be down
Would you still turn and run

I can’t believe, I can’t believe that I’m the one
After all I can see that she never had me playing
There was person A and person B
And here I go and throw in a person C
But three’s a crowd in this game today

And these head games keep spinning me around and around
I know it’s cliché, but if up could be down
Would you still turn and run

Person A, can I say how much I’m thinking of you
I’m starting to see just how much you mean to me

The Daughter of My Father

Help me to show her all that You are in me
Help her to see all that she could possibly be
Help me to be love to her more than I know
Help her to see You wherever she may go

I know I can’t hold on forever
But Your will be done in her
And if it’s what You have in mind
Can I be the one to see her
Become who You want her to be

May You make me into the brother
That I’ve always wanted to be
Lord, I thank You for this sister
This gift is so much greater
Than I ever hoped to receive
Give me a wisdom and passion
And Your words to her I’ll speak

I know I can’t hold on forever
But Your will be done in her
And if it’s what You have in mind
Can I be the one to see her
Become who You want her to be

Help me to show her all that You are
Help her to see all that she could be
Help me to love her like You do
So that through me she might see
All that You want her to be

Locking Up

What has it come to, when I cannot speak my name
All it takes is a few simple steps that even my legs can handle
But all I can do is wish I could be the man I wish to be
I can only wonder what You’d say to me

Am I a failure in Your eyes tonight, my father
Or do you look at me and smile
Knowing that I’m becoming who You want me to be
Lord, grow me into who You want me to be

Why is it so hard to say just what I think
Because I know that I could do good in Your sight
If I just took those simple steps tonight
I can only wonder what You’d say to me

Am I a failure in Your eyes tonight, my father
Or do you look at me and smile
Knowing that I’m becoming who You want me to be
Lord, grow me into who You want me to be

It seems like lately that my legs are locking up
And I’m not making a single move for You
But, Lord, make it so that when my knees are breaking
I will run this race for You

Help me see through Your eyes tonight
And move me in a way that makes You smile
I pray that I’m becoming who You want me to be
Lord, grow me into who You want me to be

Faking Illiteracy

I don’t think that I can stand to read tonight
I’ll take my chances at faking illiteracy for just one night
And now I’m left alone and bored with nothing else to do

I don’t know why I’m too lazy to sleep tonight
Or is there something I’d rather do, but it’s just not right
And now I’m left alone and bored with nothing else to do

So I daydream from my dark room about tomorrow or the next day
A day where we can all just play and have some fun and run
Yeah, we’ll run away from everything that held us back today

So I just don’t think that I can read tonight
I’ll take my chances at faking illiteracy for just one night
Dreaming in the dark about a day where we have fun
With nothing else to do but just have fun

Yeah, I’ll Cry

It’s already been said by you, that you are so much greater than
Everything I am and that I could be
It’s already been said to me, that I just can’t ever understand
Everything you think that you know

Yeah, I’ll cry when you make me feel like a waste of space
And yeah, I’ll cry when I’m thrown right out the door
Yeah, I’ll cry when the thing that I want is what you say I can’t have

You’ve done enough now, don’t you think
Unless you’d ever want to acknowledge me
You’ve done enough now, don’t you think
When almost every one of your words are insulting

Yeah, I’ll cry when you make me feel like a waste of space
And yeah, I’ll cry when I’m thrown right out the door
Yeah, I’ll cry when the thing that I want is what you say I can’t have
